An ETF Idea That is Overdue
After researching alternative/specialty REITs for possible investment, the space is missing a key idea. I believe a health care focused REIT ETF would be a great addition to the large offering of REIT ETFs and health care ETFs.
I am excited by the idea of an investment which pays a large dividend (as all REITs must do by law) and is tied to the health care sector. Some individual health care REITS have been very sturdy performers during the market crash. Health Care REIT, Inc. (HCN) for instance is unchanged over the past 2 years, while sporting a 6-7% yield. During the same time frame the S&P 500 is down 33%. Nationwide Health Properties (NHP) also performed very similarly.
I believe this area of real estate holds unique opportunity in price stability, high dividend yields, and future growth while at the same time is poorly correlated with the overall market and even the general REIT sector.
