Share:

The Chicago Purchasing Manager's Index for June came in as expected. The reading was 59.1 versus the 59.0 consensus estimate. The Chicago PMI had a reading of 59.7 in May.

A reading over 50 indicates that manufacturing is in expansion mode. However, this was the second month in a row that the business barometer index came down versus the prior month. That index peaked at 63.8 in April.

Furthermore, June was the second month in a row that the indexes for new orders, order backlogs, and prices paid came down versus the prior month. The new orders index had a reading of 65.2 in April, 62.7 in May, and 59.1 in June.

The production index ticked up from 61.0 to 64.2 and the employment index increased from 49.2 to 54.2.
