Twitter Won't Host Its Annual Mobile Developer Conference: Recode

Twitter Inc (NYSE: TWTR)'s annual mobile developer conference, Flight, won't be taking place this year.

According to Recode, Flight took place in San Francisco the past two Octobers but this year the company "hasn't made a peep" about an event. The publication's sources suggested a conference was planned by Twitter, but the plans were scrapped.

In a statement to Recode, Twitter acknowledged that a conference won't take place this year. Instead, it will focus on creating small and "more intimate" events where its developer community sees the most value.

"So instead of holding a single developer conference in San Francisco, we are hosting a series of regional developer events, continuing the momentum from our global #HelloWorld," Twitter added in its statement.

However, Recode suggested that canceling (or never even scheduling) its event is "notable" because these types of conferences are important to Twitter's technology and social media peers, including Facebook Inc (NASDAQ: FB), Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) and Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL).

Bottom line, conferences of this nature are equally important to the media and investors as they are for developers and partners. Facebook, Apple and Google all introduced new product launches or features during their respective conferences.
